The government plans to double tourist arrivals in 2017. After the cabinet meeting, the Chairman of the State Tourism Committee Zarmine Zeytuntsyan told reporters that, the number of tourists visiting Armenia increased by 18.23%, which, according to him, is unprecedented.
"It sounds pretentious, but we aim to double the number of tourists this year. In this regard, we take a lot of work, especially in the neighboring countries: in Iran and Russia. I think that we will have a big increase in April, which we should compare it with the same month in 2015, as we had a fall in 2016 because of the four-day war, "-said Zeytuntsyan.
According to her, this year the largest number of tourists came from Iran, Russia, France and China. Tourist arrivals from Iran in March increased 23%. In 2016, one million 250 thousand tourists visited Armenia.
