At today's session, the Armenian government has adopted relevant decisions to prohibit import of vehicles with right-hand drive.

The decisions also define the right of ownership of vehicles with right-hand which have been imported to Armenia by April 1, 2018.

Current owners of such cars may, at their discretion, freely exploit, register and reregister their vehicles. According to the substantiation, the operation of vehicles with right-hand drive in the Republic of Armenia is a threat to traffic as the driver of the vehicle has limited visibility. RA Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies Vahan Martirosyan noted that according to police and insurance companies, the number of accidents involving right-hand vehicles is 28% higher than in case of the left-hand cars and the number of injuries is 39% more. The Minister noted that the restrictions will not apply to vehicles imported and registered until April 1. Deputy Prime Minister Vache Gabrielyan has instructed to draft a relevant law to submit it to the government next week and then to submit it urgently to the National Assembly.
