The RA Ministry of Agriculture held a recurrent sitting of the working group established to ensure the biosafety of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Armenia, chaired by RA Minister of Agriculture Ignati Arakelyan.

Representatives of the RA Ministries of Agriculture, Nature Protection, Healthcare, heads of non-governmental organizations and scientists participated in the session.

According to the Public Relations Department of the RA Ministry of Agriculture, the members of the working group discussed the draft law "On Biosafety of GMOs in Armenia", presented recommendations and remarks on separate provisions.

During the meeting, it was reaffirmed that the legislative framework needed to implement the project should be implemented on the basis of "warning principle". As a result of the discussions it was decided that the head of the Legal Department of the RA Ministry of Agriculture and some members of the public sector of the Working Group will meet in the coming week to discuss the final draft. Clear deadlines for performing works are set.
