Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan asked Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Arthur Grigoryan what were the results of the study on the reduction of electricity tariffs at the beginning of the government session today.
The minister informed that all the possible measures were initiated and discussions were held with all the stakeholders and assessed all the risks and opportunities in the energy sector of Armenia at present.
"We have a number of risks related to the tariff revision, which we cannot ignore," A. Grigoryan said.
According to him, they are conditioned by the NPP, the work of which for the first time in its history would stop for such a long time. In the Minister's opinion, this can affect the price and, taking into account that risk, they do not want to take that step.
Touching upon the gas price problem, A. Grigorian said that the import for $ 150 at the border should be revised at the end of the year, there is a risk of the dollar-dram exchange rate.
"By the end of the year we will appreciate all the possibilities of our energy system. Therefore, taking into consideration all these risks, we think that we can make changes related to tariffs for vulnerable families which make 110-120 thousand.
As a result of our calculations, we have come to the conclusion that we can reduce the electricity tariff by 10 drams for these families ".
The minister mentioned that there are two options: to work either with PSRC or with Tashir Company. Moreover, according to him, they can negotiate with "Tashir" to reduce the tariff by 10 drams. He assured that in this case taxes on the budget will not be reduced.
N. Pashinian mentioned that the Minister's words are taken for granted. He noticed that Grigoryan spoke about such risks that he had an impression that there were no other types of risks, for example he hadn't said whether there were corruption risks, management efficiency risk or not.
