The 6th World Investment Forum 2018 will be held on October 22-26 in Geneva, hosted by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). At the initiative of Armenia's Trade Representative Hayk Hovhannisyan in the Swiss Confederation, Armenia will be represented by its own investment pavilion at the Investment Fair. Hovhannisyan will also present Armenia's investment attractiveness in a special session dedicated to Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The Global Investment Conference is the world's most important and widely-held forum for investment and sustainable development, a high level platform where issues related to this area, are discussed, opportunities for prospects, and partners are found. Over the past years, this Forum has gathered more than four thousand delegates from 160 countries, including dozens of presidents, prime ministers, and ministers. The palette of this year's participants is no less impressive.
Hayk Hovhannisyan noted, "It is more important that the participants are leaders of many transnational corporations, sovereign and other investment funds, large companies, which will not only allow for theoretical discussions on international economic policy and investments, but also look for real partners, talk with business representatives, present Armenia on the practical ground. One of the guidelines of this conference is the United Nations "Sustainable Development Targets 2030", which implies a $ 2.5 trillion investment in developing countries over the next 12 years. That is the reason for the aspirations of these countries to be presented at the highest level and actively in this Conference. By the way, the President of the Republic of Armenia Armen Sargsyan is invited by UNCTAD to take part in the Global Leaders Summit.
On October 23, on the day of the Session on Eastern Europe and Central Asia, we have also initiated a tripartite business evening Armenia-Belarus-Switzerland with the Belarusian permanent representation in the United Nations. Armenia and Belarus, both being members of EEU, will pay more attention to this new format, will present the attractiveness of our joint market, the potential for creating a business synergy with each other. From the business point of view, “Frank Muller” company, with its fruitful activity, is a unique link between these three countries, so we organize the event under its roof in the magnificent Shato du Grand Malan Castle.
By the way, we have made sure that both on the pavilion and the events zero AMD will be spend from the state budget. We are currently working together with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Armenia to the United Nations and the Permanent Representative of the World Trade Organization to prepare for the above-mentioned events and are working with the office of Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments and the Business Armenia company to create materials and programs that will be presented.
