The Wall Street Journal reports that Deutsche Bank tried to hide the loan, which was granted to the Russian bank VTB in the fall of 2016.

Against the background of an investigation by US intelligence about a possible Russian intervention in the US presidential election and under pressure from European regulators, the German bank tried to get rid of the loan by selling it half to Alfa Bank in December of that year. However, the rest of Deutsche Bank failed to sell, as a result, VTB repaid the debt in August 2017, the newspaper said, citing documents and sources familiar with the credit history of Deutsche Bank.
