President Serzh Sargsyan met today with the Executive Director of "Qatar Airways" company within the framework of the official visit to Qatar Akbar Al Bakri.
The interlocutors discussed the process and prospects of development of Armenian-Qatari cooperation in the aviation sector. The President said that "Qatar Airways" Airline played an essential role in enhancing bilateral relations. "Qatar Airways" has access to the air transport market in 2016 May, implementing the Doha-Yerevan- Doha scheduled air transport services.
According to the President, every year, direct flights play a crucial role in increasing the number of tourists to Armenia from the Gulf countries.
Noting that since 2013 Armenia adopted the "open skies" policy, the President emphasized that the policy pursued by Armenia in the field of civil aviation and air transport provides new opportunities for both local and foreign airlines, providing equal and competitive conditions for everyone.
Serzh Sargsyan noted that Armenia will welcome and support the different sectors of Armenia's economy, including Qatari investors in the aviation sector.
"Qatar Airways' chief executive said the Emir of Qatar has already been assigned to develop cooperation with Armenia and he will do everything to fulfill that assignment. Akbar Al Bakre said the airline sees the cooperation potential and strive to develop mutually beneficial relations.
