The European Commission imposed a fine of 120 million dollars on Facebook social network. The reason is that the social network gave false information regarding the purchase of WhatsApp messaging service.
European Union regulators approved the purchase of WhatsApp in 2014, considering that is not a threat for the competition. Then Facebook assured that it cannot reliably create automated system that will allow users to connect two social media accounts.

In August 2016, however, WhatsApp made it possible to connect its network to Facebook's account. The investigation found that Facebook gave false documents and the technical possibility of connecting two networks’ accounts was possible also in 2014.
