Karen Chilingaryan, head of the Consumer Consulting Center, is convinced that the 8% increase in water tariffs in Armenia can lead to the rise in prices for other services.

"Unfortunately, there have been cases in Armenia when the increase in rates of one service has led to a chain reaction in other sectors," Chilingaryan said.

Now the water price in Armenia is 180 drams ($ 0.37) per cubic meter. The company suggests increasing the tariff up to 194.3 drams ($ 0.45).

According to Chilingaryan, the desire of Veolia Jur to increase water tariffs is ungrounded, as the company did not improve the quality of services provided during this period.

"After January 1, when water price was set 180 drams in Armenia, now why does Veolia Jur offer to increase it by 14 drams? In my opinion it is unacceptable. They are looking for simple ways instead of dealing with water loss reduction. In 2015, this indicator in Yerevan was 70-75%, "he said.

The expert believes that reducing water losses will bring more profit to the company than to raise water tariffs.

Since January 1, 2017, Veolia Jur has been involved in property management of five companies - Yerevan Jur, Hayjrmughkoyughi, Shirak jrmugh, Lori Jrmugh and Nor Akunk companies.
