Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received today US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Richard Mills and (USAID) Armenia Mission Director of US Agency for International Development Deborah Gricer.

Karen Karapetyan and Richard Mills discussed a number of issues concerning the agenda of the Armenian-American relations. The interlocutors first of all touched upon the cooperation in the field of anti-corruption, discussed the current activities and future plans.

The Prime Minister noted that the government continues its consistent policy of improving the situation in the fight against corruption in accordance with its program in three main directions: reduction of corruption risks, modernization and improvement of normative-legislative field and active work of the Anti-Corruption Council. In this context, Karen Karapetyan attached importance to US assistance to the steps of the Government of Armenia, which can be demonstrated in the form of support for the Anti-Corruption Council's activities and other reforms.

The US Ambassador to Armenia welcomed the Prime Minister's efforts to fight corruption and improve the business environment that contributed to the increased interest of American investors in Armenia. He noted that during the last 8-10 months American companies operating in Armenia have received positive signals in relation to the reforms in the customs sphere. Richard Mills reaffirmed US commitment to continue supporting the Government of Armenia in the fight against corruption and is now discussing the issue of reorienting and finding the most effective way to assist.

The meeting also touched upon the two-year-old "My Armenia: cultural tourism in Armenia "project. It was developed within the framework of cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the USAID and the Smithsonian Institute in the field of culture preservation and is aimed at the preservation of national culture through the development of cultural tourism in Armenia. Issues related to the implementation of the program, as well as the planned events, as well as the participation of Armenia in the next US folkloric festival were discussed.
