Interview of Armen Avak Avakyan, Executive Director of Armenian Development Fund, published in the year-end issue of the FDi magazine of the world famous "Financial Times" group. In a conversation with Chief Editor Coutin Fingar, the Head of the ADF spoke about how the Diaspora or the network of representatives can contribute to the growth of investments into the country. >From the interview:
"H. As the new Executive Director of the ADF (National Investment and Export Promotion Authority), you mentioned that you want to create a "2.0" version of the structure. What does it mean?
P. I mean, most of the financial resources in the past have been more focused on conferences, promotion or marketing events, while now we are focusing not only on foreign direct investment but also on foreign investment. If earlier we presented Armenia as a place, now we present specific projects that are interesting. Thus, the design team, which creates and puts into practice real investment programs, promotes not only Armenia, but also business plans we work on.
H Do you have any plans on extension of representative network abroad? What role will it play?
P. The idea is that we need to raise awareness about ourselves and to boost export and investment intentions. The strategy is very similar to the water drop. You take a drop and throw it into the water that causes waves. So our strategy is that these waves arise. The drop will be the Development Fund. That's exactly the point where we stand. We are locomotives, the engine which is going to push it forward. And the first layer of the wave should be the Diaspora. "
