RA Minister of Economic Development and Investments Suren Karayan has met with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Brian MacFiters.
As the press service of the Ministry informs, the agenda of the Armenian-American economic cooperation was discussed. In particular, they discussed the spheres of economy where there are potentials for the development of Armenian-American business relations, including information technologies, pharmaceuticals, light industry, agribusiness, etc.
Suren Karayan noted that he is happy to state that the trade turnover between Armenia and the United States in 2017 grew significantly and this growth continued in January of this year. Nevertheless, the Minister underscored that the full potential of economic cooperation is not realized, and efforts should be made to make greater progress. From that point of view, the US-Armenia Trade and Investment Council meeting to be held in the United States on March 19, will highlight a wide range of issues related to promoting bilateral trade and investment.
"My visit once again emphasizes the commitment of the US government to the Armenian-American active trade relations. Trade turnover between our countries increased by 42% last year. We appreciate Armenia's continued efforts to improve the business environment and fight against corruption in order to make Armenia more attractive to investments and support them. Enhanced economic opportunities are mutually advantageous for our countries, "said US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Brian MacFiters.
During the meeting, the parties touched upon the issues of the upcoming sitting of the Armenia-US Trade and Investment Council, the investment field reforms, as well as issues related to the US GSP trade regime.
