Preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated by the RA Special Investigative Service on cases of taking bribes by officials of State Revenue Committee revealed cases of illegal import of various goods from Georgia for bribery, the Special Investigative Service reports.

Thus, as a result of large-scale investigative-procedural actions and operative-intelligence measures carried out by RA Special Investigation Service, RA National Security Service, RA State Revenue Committee and RA Police subdivisions, a number of RA citizens have imported various types of goods, including car spares, household goods and fruits and vegetables from Georgia to Armenia without customs control and fees, and at Bagratashen customs point for importing have regularly given a bribe to customs inspectors of SRC.

Particularly, the investigation has produced factual data that a customs inspector who serves at this customs point has made obvious illegal acts in favor of different citizens dealing with illegal import of various goods from Georgia, without examining and declaring goods, as well as without paying customs duty for importing goods into the territory of the Republic of Armenia. In return, the customs inspector demanded and received a bribe from the above-mentioned citizens, both alone and with the assistance of a senior customs inspector working at the same customs point.

By the decision of the investigator of the RA Special Investigation Service, the customs inspector was arrested for receiving a large bribe, and the senior inspector was arrested on suspicion of supporting him.

Urgent investigative activities and operative-intelligence activities are being carried out to reveal all the circumstances of the above-mentioned crime and to provide legal assessment of the actions of all involved persons.
