Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan today received the newly appointed UN Permanent Coordinator in Armenia, Permanent Representative of development program Shombi Sharp.

The Prime Minister congratulated Shombi Sharp on assuming office and expressed confidence that Mr. Sharp will have his contribution to further development of bilateral cooperation. The head of the government noted that close cooperation has been established with the UN Office in Armenia, a number of effective programs have been implemented, and at the same time there are new perspective directions for joint work. Karen Karapetyan presented the agenda of the Government's reforms in different spheres, noting that Armenia has great potential for sustainable development and the steps being taken are aimed at its full realization.

Shomby Sharp noted that he is the UN permanent coordinator in Armenia and will make the most of his mission to ensure the UN's involvement in the development programs of Armenia and to succeed them. He welcomed the initiative of the Government of the Republic of Armenia on reforms, as well as high economic growth and macroeconomic record, underlining that the UN is ready to support the ongoing reforms and investment programs in Armenia. The UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia also noted that he is glad to take office this year when Armenia is going to hold interesting large-scale national and international events.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on the perspectives of Armenia-UN cooperation. In this context, the sides touched upon the Armenia-2030 development agenda and attached importance to close cooperation in its implementation.
