The turnover of SMEs in Armenia in 2017 increased by 14.2% to 1920.3 billion drams or by 34.4% of GDP. This is stated in the annual survey of the Business Support Office funded by the EBRD ("SME role in the Armenian economy").

According to the source, the share of SMEs in the structure of active taxpayers made 77% or 82 209 companies. At the same time, the number of active companies in the total number of taxpayers reached 59.2% or 106,596, increasing by 5593 companies for a year.

SMEs in Armenia provided 246,702 jobs, 8,391 jobs more than a year ago. In other words, the share of SMEs in the total number of jobs was 30.3% (without the state employment agencies).

However, the structure and geography of SMEs are still unchanged. Their main activity is retail and wholesale trade (57%), while the share of employment in the service sector has increased from 17% to 21%. Particularly, the number of registered employees in the trade sector reached 46,954 (annual growth - 1311), of which 95% in micro-business. The number of SMEs engaged in the agricultural sector has grown by 84.8%, in the sphere of preservation and transportation - 67.7%, culture, recreation and rest- 22.3%. The overwhelming majority of SMEs (52.8%) are in Yerevan, 8% in Kotayk, 6.8% in Armavir and 5.3% in Ararat.
