Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan's office has issued a statement on the construction of a copper smelter by "Armenian Copper Program" CJSC.

According to this statement, the "Armenian Copper Program" CJSC introduced a new program to the government. The project envisages construction of one of the largest copper smelters in the region.

Taking into account the most serious environmental problems and the priorities of the government, the possibility of supporting this program can be considered only after clarifying the following two key issues:

1. Will the company be able to minimize the impact on the environment on the basis of best practices and ensure taking the industrial waste out of Armenia or get other products from them?

2. Will the mines supplying resources for this plant provide the required volumes of raw materials without being extra -exploited?
