The prestigious Moody's international rating agency has awarded Ameriabank with the following ratings:
- B1 rating of long-term deposits in national currency;
B2 rating of long-term foreign currency deposits;
- Long-term counteragent risk rating Ba3.
The B1 rating of long-term deposits in the national currency has a positive outlook based on the positive outlook of public debt rating B1.
B2 rating of long-term deposits in foreign currency is the maximum possible rating for Armenian banks restricted by the maximum threshold of deposits in the Republic of Armenia. The rating has a stable outlook.
The rating of long-term deposits in national currency, issued to Ameriabank, reflects:
- Bank's diversified business trends and strong positions on the local market
- improved asset quality and ability to absorb potential losses due to proper capital buffers, high profitability, and adequate coverage of problem loans,
- Sufficient liquidity and diversified sources of funding. At the same time, Ameriabank's rating is limited by Armenia's macroeconomic indicators and foreign currency loans.
When determining ratings, Moody's has taken a number of key indicators. Particularly, the share of non-performing loans in the total loan portfolio has decreased. As of 31.03.2018 this figure was 3.9%, compared to 4.1% at the end of 2017, the problem coverage ratio for 2018 made 87% in the first quarter, compared to 57% at the end of 2017. At the same time, the share of foreign currency loans at the end of the year was high- 82%, which has led to the sensitivity of assets to exchange rate fluctuations. On the other hand, the major part of these borrowers are exporters, which provide foreign exchange earnings, and partly reduces the credit risk arising from exchange fluctuations.
