RA Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies Ashot Hakobyan, Armenian Ambassador to Georgia Ruben Sadoyan, Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Rostov-on-Don Vardan Asoyan and Russian counterparts held a meeting on the Russian side of Upper Lars checkpoint.

During the meeting the sides discussed the situation in the Lars checkpoint and the main reasons for the large accumulation.

Russian partners have provided some statistics. They say that, unlike 2017, the use of checkpoint by passenger cars, tourists has increased by 50 %. According to forecasts, this growth will continue in the near future.

The Lars checkpoint, according to the regulations, has a pass port, according to which 170 trucks and 3,000 physical entities should be served daily, but as of August 5, 500 trucks and 15 thousand citizens were actually served.

According to the RA Ministry of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies as the priority is given to passenger cars in the checkpoint, therefore, the capacity of the trucks has dropped significantly. When there are accumulation of passenger cars, all the Lars checkpoints start to service them.
