The total number of credit cards issued in the Russian Federation in January-September 2018 was 7.67 million. These data are presented in the materials of the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBCH).

In the reporting period, this figure increased by two thirds compared with 2017: that year, the population received 4.61 million credit cards.

According to the NBCH, the share of citizens over the age of 65 in this category of loans has increased. It rose by 1.5 percentage points, to 5.8 percent.

The share of citizens under the age of 25 decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 9.9 percent during the first 9 months of the current year.

The highest reduction is observed in the age group of 25-29 years old - a reduction to 13.5 percent.

General Director Alexander Vikulin noted that the growth rates of new credit cards still remain high. In his opinion, this type of loan is suitable for both credit institutions and borrowers. In particular, banks can effectively manage credit risk using credit card limits.

Vikulin causes a significant increase in the number of people over 60 by the fact that they have a steady income as a result of receiving a pension.
