Facebook is developing a virtual currency. It will be used by WhatsApp users for money transfers, reports Bloomberg.

According to the agency, Facebook intends to link the rate of its currency with the US dollar.

The exact date of the introduction of cryptocurrency in WhatsApp is not specified. It is known that its development is at the initial stage.
Crypto money is developed by Facebook for the Indian market. In India, more than 200 million people are instant messenger users.

In addition, India is the undisputed leader in remittances. According to the World Bank, last year, residents of the country transferred 69 billion dollars.

The agency’s journalists say that interest in Facebook financial services doesn’t surprise anyone. Four years ago, Mark Zuckerberg’s company hired former PayPal manager D. Markus. At the end of this year, Markus was appointed head of the blockchain unit. Currently, the department employs 40 professionals.
